Lia Halloran

Lia Halloran is a New York based photographer and skate enthusiast , who is using her creative practise to merge movement and still life into one brilliant and extreme landscape.

Initially Lia's work explored ink and portraiture, complimenting her painting and print making degree (Yale). However - Lia's interest in gravity, direction and movement, as well as her Skateboard culture influence have redefined her creative expression. Her second solo exhibition, in collaboration with DCKT (2008) was amazing, and continues to create hype - In the art, street, and skate worlds alike.

The process is primarily conducted within the notion of movement and line, in which the figure and function of skateboarding, its character and architectural interaction is recorded.

Her work depends on the viewers ability to enjoy the nature of line and laws of movement. It asks its witness to invite a second platform into still photography, on which motion, direction and time can be explored playfuly.

Amid her effective invocative of concept and comment Lia operates exaggeration, amplification and artistic technicality to create multidimensional and rich landscapes that captivate viewers with delicacy and urban/cultural grittiness.

See her work at DCKT or her independent site.

IT'S A SPLENDOUR BENDER BABY

It's here again ... Soon !

Dates and venue are official, 25th and 26th of July, BELONGIL FIELDS.
Rumours about a venue change for future festivals are true, but the organisers have said this won't be happening until 2010. So for one last year Belongil Fields is the home of Splendour.
Tickets will go on sale in May (no official dates as yet) and the first line up to be announced towards the end of April.

So until then sit tight and have a go at working out the line up.

Keep an eye on the official site, Faster Louder and Triple J.

PEGLEG

The crew at PEGLEG NYC have been around for a while now and sure know how to get attention. Although I've never been much a fan of their pants, their tops have always wowed me...

The Mix Check Crew Neck Sweatshirt was a part of their Fall/Winter 2008 collection. It's 100% cotton, high quality, and heavy. This is a great and refreshing move for PEGLEG.

We're seeing alot of fresh and interesting cardigans and sweaters from alot of designers, which hopefully will direct us AWAY from the generic cotton grahpic print hoodie that ALMOST TOOK OVER THE WORLD last winter.

For the credibility and quality, it's a pretty reasonable buy.

Check out their site and new collections - http://peglegnyc.com/

BOOKCLUB

Simon Gibson and Serge Bodulovic bring us BookClub.

It's simple at first, but these fresh garments have been designed each with unique style and character. The dog eared jeans, the leathered pockets on cotton jackets, and the intergration of style with simplicity is what aims to set BookClub apart.
These Austalian guys have made a fair impression with the edgey, but practical collection. Hopefuly we'll see more soon. http://www.bkclb.com.au/
